Empathy - Full Review
Well, last night was the inaugral 'Empathy' night, a night filled with EBM/Industrial and DJ'd by me.

The night itself went well despite a couple of problems with the equipment which forced me to chop 40 minutes off my set, starting at 9.30pm rather than 9pm. I wasn't best chuffed as the AV folk were supposed to have done all their checks . However, they found the problem and got is sorted which was good as it looked at one point like it may have to cancel. There were actuall y people WAITING to get in too, all resplendent in finest gothic black which was a good sign. However, there were more than a few emo lids and nu-metallers who had also turned up...more on them later.

The crowd at it's peak numbered around 140 which was more than i expected. I was expecting around 80-100, so i was pleased at the turnout. The music seemed to go down pretty well too and the dancefloor was kept busy throughout the night. However, because i'm so out of practice i wasn't happy with my sequencing or mixing (maybe i can get a few pointers from sublevel3 and darkstones... ) but no-one seemed to notice. The tunes which kept the dancefloor going are behind the cut...

I had to laugh at the nu-metallers coming up to me and telling me to stop with the 'techno-pish' and play some Slipknot. I had to ask if they had read the posters. They replied that they didn't know what the night was about and hadn't a clue about EBM or industrial and were only there to drink and pull burdz. To pull burdz they had to dance, and dance they did. However, they didn't do very well on ththe pulling front...

So good things about the night...

1. More practice for me (and hopefully more exposure)


2. A better than expected turnout


3. A dancefloor that was filled most of the night


4. Decent beer

Not so good things about the night...

1. Deck problems


2. Loads of Emo-kids & nu-metallers


3. Not enough bar staff


4. The fact that there may not be another one

However, the night has drained me somewhat and i'm knackered...i have work this morning too. I just want to sleep now.
